Sara Santarossa- 2017
Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA) Community Health Promotion Award for Outstanding Individual
BANA’s Community Health Promotion Award for Outstanding Individual is rewarded each year to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the enhancement of healthy lifestyles in our community.
“Sara Santarossa is a third year PhD candidate in the Department of Kinesiology, at the University of Windsor, working under Dr. Sarah Woodruff. Sara is generally interested in the area of health and wellness. Specifically, her research examines the relationship between social media and technology with psychosocial variables like gender roles, body image, self-esteem, eating behaviours, and eating disorders. Sara has received research funding at both the provincial and national level, and was most recently awarded a Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Doctoral scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Sara has published and presented her research locally, nationally, and internationally. Sara hopes to continue her career in academia and to create interventions that promote positive behaviour change. Importantly, Sara is passionate about community and volunteerism, and is a member of the Board of Directors for Leadership Advancement for Women and Sport, Kid Sport Windsor-Essex, and WEA (Windsor Endowment for the Arts). Whether through her research, volunteer activities, or personal endeavours, Sara’s true passion is contributing positively to her surroundings.”
Vanessa Joubert- 2017
Ontario Volunteer Service Award
This award recognizes individuals for continuous years of service from five years and in increments of five thereafter in a given organization. In this case I received the recognition for continuous service with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Windsor-Essex. As a fairly new Canadian Citizen, this is an honour and I’m humbled.
